A medical instrument or device could be single use or reusable. Single use medical instruments or devices like syringes are not reused while reusable medical instruments or devices like endoscopes must undergo a cleaning and sterilization/disinfection process. This is essential to prevent outbreak of infections and promote patient’s safety.

Endoscopy involves examining or looking inside a person’s body, usually the digestive system, for medical reasons. This is done with the aid of an endoscope. An endoscope is a long, thin, flexible/rigid medical imaging tube with a light and camera attached for capturing images of the body part being examined. It is inserted through a natural opening such as the mouth cavity or the rectum.

An endoscope is a reusable medical instrument and the only medical imaging device that is inserted directly into the organ being examined. This makes it a critical medical instrument for sterilization according to Spaulding’s classification as quoted in Disinfection and Sterilization Infection Control Guidelines, 2009. After using an endoscope, it must pass through different cleaning and disinfection processes before it can be used again.

Another issue of note is it’s drying and storage after cleaning and sterilizing. Several manufacturers offer several models. Models currently available include: Steelco, Medivators, Soluscope, Escad, Afos, Wassernburg, Logiquip, and Scope-store. This list is not exhaustive.

It will be unfair to pick one model as better than all others. So in making a choice, it’s advised you consider features that relate to your organization’s specific needs, while ensuring it meets the Association of Advancement of Medical Instruments (AAMI) standards which are it’s shelf’s must be vertical to aid drainage and metal to prevent moisture retention.

Drying Mechanism

Endoscopes are dried at low temperature with medical-grade air. Majority of models meet this requirement by continuously flushing the chamber with steriled HEPA-filtered air.

Storage Capacity and Compatibility

Capacity is number of endoscopes that can be stored, it ranges from as low as five to as high as sixteen. Steelco has the highest capacity of sixteen, Medivator and Arc have a capacity of ten, Soluscope has eight, while Olympus has the lowest of seven.

Compatibility varies meaning while some models can store endoscopes from other brands, other models cannot store endoscopes from other brands. Although, Olympus has the lowest capacity, it appears to be the only brand that is compatible with other brands.

DURATION OF STORAGE

The endoscope passes through the process of cleaning and sterilizing when used before it is stored for future use. Duration of storage is how long can it be stored without re-sterilizing before use. Most models are 72 hours, Soluscope is 7 days, Wassernburg is 30 days while Medivator has the longest at 31 days.

Traceability

Radio Frequency ID(RFID) helps to keep track of endoscope use and ensure unauthorized persons have no access. A latest models are fitted with this technology.

Documentation

Documenting the conditions of endoscopes helps to determine if they are in working conditions when needed. This feature is available at Olympus and Escad.

Other side features include smart light to indicate progress and condition of endoscope which escad has. Capacity to integrate with IT services like HIS, current models have this capacity.

MOON-QX2000 ultrasonic washer is an excellent efficient product in a CSSD. It can be used for all medical instruments.

This ultrasonic washer can be used for single, double or triple frequency. The triple frequency washer can be set with auto shift in three frequencies of 40 KHz, 80 KHz and 100 KHz to wash instruments in three ways of prewashing, rinsing and final washing. The dirt attached on the instruments surface can be cleaned off thoroughly.

MOON-QX2000 consists of a washing tank, ultrasonic generator, ultrasonic transducer, heating tube, temperature transmitter and water level transmitter, draining pump, basket and pipeline. It uses high frequency oscillation signals which are sent out by the ultrasonic generator and converted to high frequency mechanical oscillation signals which diffuse into the cleaning solution. This generates millions of tiny bubbles in the cleaning solution. During the process called ‘Cavitation’ the bubbles implode immediately to generate high pressure which impacts the dirt adhered on the instrument surfaces and achieves proper cleaning.

High washing speed improves working efficiency. It protects the instruments from contamination caused by hand contact.
The tank and outer cover are made from high quality stainless steel which is durable and easy to clean.
All tanks are auto water-injecting which injects water to certain water level.
All tanks are equipped with reliable LCD monitor that can be controlled independently.

MOON QX series ultrasonic washer can be equipped with extended-function tank: flushing tank, drying tank.

Flushing tank: The high pressure flushing tank uses powerful circulating pump and specialized nozzle to flush, rinse, disinfect and apply oil on instruments after the ultrasonic washing.

Drying tank: This tank adopts high quality heater and efficient fan to dry the instruments after washing and disinfection.

The Moon Rider endoscope washers disinfector is fully automatic and is developed according to the ISO 15883-4 standard.

It works with various kinds of disinfectants such as: Glutaraldehyde, peracetic acid, phthalic dicarboxaldehyde, chlorine dioxide, acidic electrolyzed oxidizing water.

Endoscope protection design

– Leaking test function

The leaking test will finish before the endoscope comes into contact with the liquid and will also keep on testing during the operation. The system gives out visual and audible signals and will terminate the operation as soon as the leaking value exceeds the set value.

– Blocking test function

The blocking test will start before the endoscope comes into contact with the liquid. The system gives out visual and audible signals and will terminate the operation as soon as the pipe is found to be blocked.

The automatic washing, rinsing and disinfecting cycle, with the possibility of time regulation, is electronically programmed. It consists of the following phases that are automatically executed after the start button has been pressed:

Loading cold water in the storage tank
Washing with cold water
Loading hot water in the storage tank
Rinsing with hot water
Steam disinfection with automatic calculation of Ao and following drying
cooling the containers by cold water

TEMPERATURE

The system, as required by the ISO 15883, it is endowed with a double sensor of temperature (process sensor and control sensor), which provides to signal the anomaly in case the read temperatures differs of 120C, besides the operator can choose to perform the cycle with priority to temperature or priority to Ao value, moreover can set the Ao value and the temperature of disinfection.

With the priority method Ao, the equipment calculates the instant value during the phase of temperature rising, and it arrests the disinfection to the attainment of the preset Ao value (the Ao value established by the norm for human waste containers shall be at least 60). The cycle with temperature priority foresees that the disinfection is performed up to the attainment of the temperature and the time settled, at the end of which the Ao value reached is showed on display card, which has to be equal or superior to the value planned.

DETERGENT PUMP

The pump, after the programming of the output time and determinate the water quantity in the tank, add directly in the tank the detergent/disinfecting. The function can be enable and/or disenable directly from display on the follow phases:

Pre-wash, wash and rinse only rinse

PUMP RINSE AID

The pump, after the programming of the output time and determinate the water quantity and hardness in the tank, add directly the polishing for the phase of the final rinse, improving the phase of the drier and the elimination of the residual limestone. The function can be enable and/or disenable directly from display.

DYNAMIC DRYING

At the end of the disinfection phase a steam damp in the chamber is performed, followed by the partial opening of the door to help the drying for condensation. The system is very effective in combination with the rinse aid pump (see Note 3)

This washer-disinfector is an internationally advanced product which is researched for the middle and large size hospitals. Its advantages is a high reliable quality washer for a high work load.It can be widely used for hospital reusable articles such as operating instruments, minimally invasive instruments, corrugated and anesthesia hoses, glassware, dental hand pieces, baby bottles and general medical instruments especially for hospital CSSD.

It has a modular design with a compact structure and provides multiple combinations to meet customer requirements.

The width of the washer-disinfector is only 1200mm which provides for a convenient installation.

Nice window design and good maintainability

The chamber has a door with a large-sized window. For maintenance purposes all the pipelines are fixed on one side of the washer-disinfector with open type doors for easy access.

High-efficient hot-wind drying system

Two-stage drying system with sieve-style air inlet dramatically improves the drying result and efficiency. It also solves the drying problems caused by temperature changes.

Diversified carrying system

For your convenience, we offer manual carry-trolley and auto washing racks to increase efficiency and reduce labor intensity.
